Has a lived experience of addiction
I was brought up in a family with two parents that had an alcohol use disorder and then I developed one myself. At 11 I became addicted to prescription medication, and at 15 I picked up my first drink. Both my grandparents died from alcohol misuse. My dad got sober through AA before I was born, my mother when I was 12. I got sober at 18 after planning to end my life.
I have been sober ever since that day 40 years ago.
Today I work in the field of addiction recovery and support people battling with trauma, PTSD and mental health.
I am an ambassador for a national PTSD organisation and my desire is to bring great hope through sharing my story of lived experience and letting others know, that if I can come out the other side they can too.
