We are living every parent’s worst nightmare, our son and daughter died from alcohol related causes in 2016 and 2017. They were 41 and 44.

They were both being treated for anxiety and depression and in regular contact with the medical system. They both tried private rehabilitation which costs several $10,000’s for those without private health insurance. Public rehabilitation was difficult to access. Home detox was without support and failed.

We sought advice from GPs, counsellors, help-lines, books, the internet, everywhere. Messages were mixed, many times a ‘tough love’ approach, ‘let them fall’ was recommended. We couldn’t do that.

We found a support group for people like us - desperate parents, partners, children and loved ones. This group helped us.
